Cross of Iron: The Rise and Fall of the Nazi War Machine
In this installment of “Books of Our Time” host Dean Lawrence R. Velvel sits down with John Mosier to discuss the latter’s new book “Cross of Iron: The Rise and Fall of the German War Machine, 1914-1918.” In this new book, Mosier makes stunning revelations about the German army’s operational effectiveness, it’s complicity in Nazi crimes and the roots of it’s successes. Mosier finds Hitler to be strategically competent, when compared to his General Staff, and possessing all the qualities of an “Evil Genius.” Most interestingly, Mosier dispatches with the myths that have told us for years that the Germans had the best armored tank force- in fact this was very far from the case.
